Tree Trimming & Pruning

Tree Trimming & Pruning

Tree pruning and trimming are essential aspects of the tree care services we offer at Big Branch Tree Care Services. Trimming is applied to shrubs and hedges while pruning is applied to shrubs and trees. They are performed at different times, requiring different tools. Although these two tree care services are different, they are classified as one service. While tree trimming makes sure that the shrub and hedge grow healthily, tree pruning is used to save the shrubs from being covered by overgrown bushes that deprives them of sunlight and water and also ensures the removal of dead or infected branches for the safety of the shrub. We ensure that we carry out these services with the utmost care and precision with the right equipment because we understand the lasting damage that will happen with improper pruning.

Tree Trimming Guidelines
Tree trimming can be done at any time of the year, but it is best practiced during the dormant season. When there is a hazard, trimming should be suspended. Before you trim, you should be aware of the size of the branch you’re removing. For instance, if the branch you’re removing is about 10 centimeters, you should not remove it unless there’s really a good reason for it. It’s also better to prune branches when they are at a young stage in order not to damage the tree. Knowing your branches before trimming is very important. If the branch has a V shape or is weak and has narrow angles, you can trim it, but if it is U shaped and healthy, you might want to leave it alone.

Tree Pruning Guidelines
When pruning a tree, it is advisable to gather knowledge about the tree and also on the techniques involved in the process. The techniques involved in tree pruning include crown thinning, crown reduction, and crown raising. Crown thinning involves ensuring that lateral branches are evenly spaced and removing other branches that cross them. Crown reduction is the removal of whole branches or reducing the crown of a tree to a certain height. Crown raising is the lifting or pruning away of falling branches for the visibility of sign posts, and other materials that provides direction or the better view of pedestrians. It is mostly applied to trees at the road side.

Importance of Tree Trimming and Pruning
Trimming and pruning basically involves removing unwanted parts of a tree based on the size of the branch to be removed and the equipment to be utilized. They are both practiced for many reasons including safety, tree’s health, infection control and beauty. When a part of a tree is infected, in order to save the tree as a whole from getting infected, it is ideal to remove the infected part by trimming it. Trees are used in beautifying surrounding and landscapes. Trimming the tree also helps it to enhance that beauty, and showcase the aesthetic qualities of the region it is planted.
